In interrogating fundamental assumptions about difference and equity, Abu El-Haj deftly blends critique with a search for hope and possibility, to ultimately argue for ways educators might translate ideals about justice into effective practice.

I am again quoting something from this book for a talk I'm giving, and entered the Amazon cite to make sure my citation was correct, saw it only had one star -- How can that be? The book is superb for explaining so much aobut how our society shapes teachers' and students' identies and thinking and how we can learn our way out of our prejudices -- coming to terms with how our cultures have shaped us and begin to build a new way of relating outside the tired boxes of center and margins.
