About the Author

Stephanie Hemelryk Donald is Future Fellow and Professor of Comparative Film and Cultural Studies at the University of New South Wales. Her Public Secrets, Public Spaces (2000) analyses the relationship between political change, civil society, and film in the 1980s and early 1990s in China. Little Friends (2005) discusses postrevolutionary filmmakers and children's socialization. Tourism and the Branded City: Film and Identity on the Pacific Rim (2007) takes an interdisciplinary view of urban histories and visual identity. The State of China Atlas (3rd ed. 2009), Media and China (co-edited with Michael Keane, 2001) and Picturing Power (co-edited with Harriet Evans, 1999) are well-used texts in tertiary courses on China and visual media. Current research looks at middle-class emergence in the PRC, mobile-phone use among young people, and the aesthetics of the poster in China.

Eleonore Kofman is Professor of Gender, Migration and Citizenship and Co-Director of the Social Policy Research Centre at Middlesex University. Her research interests are in gender and migration in Europe, especially family and skilled migrations; cosmopolitanism, multiculturalism and migration; and feminist political geography. She is co-author of Gender and International Migration in Europe: Employment, Welfare and Politics (2000) and co-editor of Mapping Women, Making Politics: Feminist Perspectives on Political Geography (2004), Henri Lefebvre: Selected Writings (2003) and Globalization: Theory and Practice (3rd edn 2008).

Catherine Kevin completed her PhD at the University of Sydney and is currently a lecturer in Australian History at Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia. Her key research interests are histories of Australian reproductive medicine, reproductive politics, feminist theories of the body, Australian feminism, Italian immigration to Australia. Works in progress include a monograph entitled Great Expectations: A Political History of Pregnancy in Australia (since 1945) and the editing of a collection of essays called Feminism and the Body, Interdisciplinary Perspectives. Recent publications include ‘Looking Out For Girls: A Feminist Reading of Kate Shortland’s Somersault’; ‘Subjects for Citizenship: Pregnancy and the Australian Nation, 1945-2000’; ‘Forming Families on the Reproductive Frontier’; ‘Maternity and Freedom: Australian Feminist Encounters with the Reproductive Body’; and the book A History of Italian Settlement in New South Wales (1999), co-authored with Roslyn Pesman.

Sven Bernecker is Professor of Philosophy at the University of California at Irvine. Dorian T. Warren is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. A very nice review and analysis of preemptive first strikes in 19th-20th Century warfare leading to an informed critique of the Bush II invasion of Iraq. In the process it provide information on more obscure military interventions such as the Japanese-Russian conflict of 1905. A quick and easy read for the fan of history texts.

About the Author
Len Sperry, MD, PhD, is Professor of Mental Health Counseling at Florida Atlantic University, and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin where, for several years, he held appointments as a tenured full professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Preventive Medicine, and Family and Community Medicine. He has more than 600 publications, including 60 professional books, many on the topic of spirituality. He is a member of 12 book and journal editorial boards including Psychology of Religion and Spirituality and Counseling and Values.

Really? Who gives one star to a book? That probably says more about the reader than the book. I found the book to be helpful and enlightening, putting together important pieces of the developmental puzzle. The portions on spiritual development and a child's image of God were especially intriguing.

Save your money. "Spirituality in Clinical Practice" contains bits and nuggets of INFORMATION within the realm of Psychotherapy...but reads like a dictionary.. No new insights. If you can purchase "Spirituality in Clinical Practice" PRE-OWNED for $5.00...then it may be worth the ca$h. Find something else..unless you have money to burn. "Spirituality in Clinical Practice" is an overview, a summary regarding counseling.

If you enjoy Kibble and Bits, this is for you. If you desire meat....keep searching!!! I do not recommend "Spirituality in Clinical Practice" for the mature Christian.

Michael H. Thaut. Ph.D., RMT is the coordinator of graduate studies in music and music therapy at Colorado State University. I should start by saying that I am student of music therapy especially fascinated by neuroscience.

Michael Thaut's book is essentially a detailed account of the philosophy, mathematical rationale, scientific evidence, and techniques behind Neurologic Music Therapy, a sub-field of music therapy that utilizes musical rhythm to treat various maladies. Thaut, of course, is essentially the father of Neurologic Music Therapy; this book provides the bases for his entire body of research. ANY MUSIC THERAPIST INTERESTED IN NEUROLOGIC MUSIC THERAPY SHOULD OWN IT AND READ IT!!

In terms of accessibility, to anyone interested in music therapy, neuroscience, or different ways to think about musical rhythm. To the layperson, portions will seem dense; however, any lover of music will get more insight into the power of musical rhythm. Thaut's strength is not as a visionary poet per se but as an integrator of various academic fields. He understands how to weave music, math, neuroscience, and medicine together seamlessly.

Much of Neurologic Music Therapy focuses on rhythm-driven optimization of motor control. Perhaps a better title for the book, therefore, would have been "Musical Rhythm, Movement, and the Brain." For readers especially interested in prosody and other areas of music-related linguistics, I would suggest Ani Patel's "Music, Language, and the Brain" as a more appropriate collection of research.

The book is interesting, but completely exhausting. Each paragraph is jammed full of verbiage. As a non-medical reader, I found myself back in middle-school diagramming sentences again.

This book was exciting resources for me. It answered my questions regarding recent experiences of sudden dream recalls after practice singing Baroque music, intensely. When we get older, we start noticing this and that, diminishing or lost. So good side of this state is that when it changes there is a chance of awakening! Great new discovery! Very happy to find this book. Thank you.

Over the past decade, our understanding of the fundamental differences in child development, behavior, and emotional maturity between boys and girls has increased dramatically, and as a result, many gender-specific interventions and support programs have been developed to meet the needs of parents, teachers, and mental health professionals.  However, these all take the form of responses designed to minimize an already disruptive behavior pattern.  What has been needed is a pro-active program whose goal is to instill positive skills and patterns in 'at-risk' boys, rather than waiting to address problems after they are already visible.

The BAM! Boys Advocacy and Mentoring program fills this need by providing the first guidebook for group facilitators who want to lead preventative boys groups designed to foster communication skills and emotional connections.  Based on years of research and refined over the course of countless sessions run by the authors, the program has been field-tested and tailored for use either in the school setting or outside.  Over a series of group sessions, participants are encouraged to understand their emotions and interpersonal interactions without losing a sense of 'maleness' as a result of emotional growth and communication with peers about personal issues.  The activities are designed to be engaging across age groups, and the individual exercises and program structure can be modified to fit into any existing school- or community-based mentoring system.  The guidebook contains all of the information and tools a facilitator needs in order to implement and maintain these boys groups.

Definitely a model that addresses some of the long over looked needs of boys. Yes, I said it...needs. Not the need to stiffle emotions in a stoic "world be damned" attitude that will only later be vented in football crowds and drunken brawls...the need to manage ones emotions competently in the 21st century. These authors understand what boys need to feel safe, validated and in control of themselves. A worthy programmatic addition to any youth development library.
