Not that easy to read, not a how-to, but still a great book

I have to counter the statement in another review that this book is "easy to read." Yes, it is, if you know what "latent semiotic unruliness" means. It is also not a how-to book. I would not recommend buying this book unless you are interested in how eBay has affected our culture. Having said this, I agreed that it is a great book, but not for the same reasons as the other reviewer states. It's about time academia studied eBay, because as a life-time scavenger of flea markets and antique shops, I have noticed a dramatic change in what I'm seeing in these places in response to eBay's existence (and perhaps also Antique Roadshow's). The papers range from being so academic that I struggled with the text, to pure pleasure reading. I particularly enjoyed reading William Gibson's personal account of trading on eBay, and one about Black Friday. There are a lot of anecdotes about remarkable auctions that are fun to read, but they are scattered throughout the papers. Still, I'm very happy to have found this book.

Great Book - Smart AND Useful

This is a really great book. When I first read through it I was a bit surprised as I'd assumed it was a straightforward "how to" book about buying and selling on eBay. Actually it's a collection of easy to read articles that look at the ways various groups of collectors, sellers and other folks use ebay and how it relates to their lives on a daily basis. There are 19 short pieces and as I read through them I realized the book is actually full of stories and ideas on how to improve my sales and how to be more savvy as a buyer. So even though it's not mainly a "how to" book, for my money it's actually the best "how to" book on eBay there is. Highly recommended and easy to read.

Kenneth Waltz happens to be the modern Guru of realist theories. His books are highly acclaimed by readers and researchers alike. His contributions to the field of international political perception seem next to those of Leo Strauss. But not much was read of his illuminating and exciting articles which is now published in a collected essay form. The readers and others will simply get the juice and kernel of his understanding of international political theories.

Although realist school of thought does no longer hold an unchallenged sway in international theories, Kenneth Waltz, as the torch bearer and ardent supporter of realist theories, seeks to highlight those latent aspects of realist theories in the backdrop of contemporary period.

I though that this book would approach migration theory by integrating the perspectives of different disciplines. However. the book its but a series of stand-alone essays written by people from different disciplines. As a result, it still lacks what migration theory needs, which is an integration of disciplines.

I wanted to be impressed with this book

But it's just not what I was looking for. The quality of writing is good and the content is fine. The scholarship seems solid and the information is helpful. But the focus seems to be more on the US than i'm interested in when looking at comparative migration analysis issues (my focus is on the MENA).

Excellent reference of Black Authors, Illustrators for Kids

Definitely a book for the library reference section. A valuable home reference for those involved in multicultural literature and African American children's and young adult literature. The fourth edition includes extensive biographical information, such as author and illustrator websites and email, bookcovers, listing of Coretta Scott King Award and Honor Books from 1970 - 2006 and a listing of African American- owned bookstores in the US. I enjoy the in-depth bibliographic information for each author and illustrator. The MAJOR disappointment is the lack of fact checking of the bookstore list, which includes several that are out-of-business or moved to new locations. The fourth edition does include new entries and has deleted some entries from previous editions. Yes, it's a must have.

About the Author

Cynthia Pope is Associate Professor of Geography at Central Connecticut State University and Lecturer in Global Health at Yale University. Her work deals with the intersections of geopolitics, gender, and HIV risk in the developing world, particularly Latin America and the Caribbean.

Renee T. White is Professor of Sociology and co-director of Black Studies at Fairfield University. She is co-editor of the Journal of HIV/AIDS Prevention in Children and Youth. Her research focuses on health disparities, reproductive and AIDS-related social policy, urban inequalities and social justice.

Robert Malow is a Professor of Public Health at Florida International University and is associated editor of AIDS Education and Prevention. He has authored over 150 scientific publications and has led over a dozen National Institutes of Health-funded projects in the area of HIV and substance abuse.
